Fuzhou is the "Capital of Kelp in China" and Lianjiang County is the "Home of Kelp in China." As an important eel breeding and export base in China, Fuzhou is also the "Capital of Eel in China," with the output ranking first among prefecture-level cities in the country. In 2022, the total amount of aquatic products in the city was 3.005 million tons, with an output value of 67.542 billion yuan, continuing to rank first in the province. The total amount of processed aquatic products in the city was 1,572,800 tons, with an output value of 46.059 billion yuan; The total production of deep-sea fishing reached 488,200 tons, with an output value of 3.638 billion yuan. In 2022, it produced 116,600 tons of abalone, 429,200 tons of kelp, 71,700 tons of shrimp, and 76,000 tons of eel (freshwater aquaculture), all ranking first in the country.
"Fujian Strait Aquatic Products Trading Center" is the largest spot aquatic products trading market in Southeast Asia, with a total construction area of 350,000 square meters and a high-standard refrigerated storage that has a capacity of 150,000 tons. It is an important channel for cross-strait aquacultural cooperation and exchange. More than 1,000 domestic and foreign merchants have settled in the center, and more than 300 kinds of aquatic products are traded here. Fuzhou's aquaculture operators account for about 60% of the total in China. 40% of deep-sea fishing enterprises in China and ASEAN trade their fish in the "trading center", with an annual trading volume of nearly one million tons and a trading value of more than ten billion yuan, accounting for about 10% of the total output value of deep-sea fishing in China.
As an important pillar industry in Fuzhou, food processing enjoys an annual output value of 120 billion yuan. In recent years, a pre-made food industry chain system has been formed, with pre-made food production and processing enterprises as the core, network platforms as the main channel of sales, and cold chain logistics as the support. There are more than 100 pre-made food enterprises above designated size in Fuzhou. The operation revenue reached more than 20 billion yuan in 2022. Leading enterprises include Haixin Food, Baiyang Seafood, Youyu food, Hydewin, Yuguan Food, Juchunyuan and so on. Fuzhou seafood and pre-made food of Fujian cuisine represented by Fotiaoqiang, abalone and eel have been sold throughout the country and exported to Europe, America, Japan and Southeast Asia. Focusing on aquatic and seafood products, pre-made dishes featuring Fujian cuisine have become a new food fashion at home and abroad.
Lianjiang County, Mawei District and Fuqing City have become the gathering place of pre-made food. Yuanhong International Food Industry Park now has more than 20 enterprises including Yuguan, Saneheld Food and Yuweixiang, with an output value of more than 13 billion yuan.
Fuzhou has established a number of sales platforms, including Pupu, YH Supermarket, dongpin.cn., etc. In 2022, YH achieved more than 500 million yuan in its sales of pre-made food; dongpin.cn. achieved 300 million yuan, and Pupu achieved more than 500 million yuan.
